DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Historical Society says a large clock that once was displayed at the Chicago World's Fair in 1934 has been damaged by vandal.
The Historical Society says a man pulled a fire alarm Thursday at the Detroit Historical Museum and damaged the Meier Clock. Police officers and the fire department responded to the alarm and the man was taken into custody.
The museum is assessing the damage.
The Meier Clock was built in Detroit by clockmaker Louis Meier Sr., who owned a jewelry store. It also was displayed at the 1906 Michigan State Fair. The Meier family in 1982 donated the clock to the Detroit Historical Museum.
The clock and its mahogany case weigh about 2,500 pounds. It's about 15 feet high and 7 feet wide.
