Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Issue

Has anyone had this problem?

My wife's computer has Windows Home Premium 7, SP1 installed. Last week she told me that when she tries to open a document in Office 2010 Home and Student, by clicking the file tab and "open", nothing happens. In other workds the document library pop up does not open so she can select a document. I checked and this was true in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

I tried an number of things including repairing the Office installation and finaly uninstalling and re-installing Office 2010.

Finally I decided to to a repair install of Windows 7. As I was preparing to do that, I learned that if you have updated Win7 with SP1, you can't do a repair install with a non-SP1 or a slip streamed SP1 disk. I bought Win7 in December 2010 and so it is non-SP1. I went into control panel and uninstalled the SP1 update. Then I cleaned up my disk space using disk cleanup and removed all unnecessary files including system files.

After all this was done I checked on my issue and lo and behold..problem solved, Word, Excel, and Project were all behaving as normal. When you click the file tab, then click "open" a pop-up box with the document library opens so you can select what you are looking for. Hooray!

Next I restarted the computer and reinstalled SP1 and guess what, the problem returned. So there is some issue with this computer and SP1. I don't know what it is, but I am uninstalling SP1 again.

Anyone have any ideas?
